Elected City Officials

The Mayor and City Council members are the elected leaders of the City Government. Each was elected to serve a 4-year term.

       Council Members:  

  • Doug Voss, Council Member at Large
  • Vacant - Council Member at Large

Responsibilities

The City Council makes all policy decisions in matters such as: budgets, improvement projects, legislation and zoning.  The Council hires the City Attorney and City Administrator, and confirms appointments to the City’s Boards, Commissions, and Department Head positions.

The meetings will air at the following times:

  • Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays at 4 p.m.
  • Sundays at 4 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Seeking Applicants for City Council Member

The City of Owatonna is seeking applicants for a City Council Member at Large vacancy.  The term of office for this vacancy will expire on December 31, 2022.  Upon completion of a thorough review and interview of interested applicants, the City Council by vote of a majority of the members remaining in office shall fill the vacancy.  In the event of a tie vote, the Mayor shall cast the deciding vote.   

The City Council provides an essential connection between our residents and local government. The City Council makes all policy decisions in matters such as: budgets, improvement projects, legislation and zoning.  City Council encourages residents to consider applying for the open City Council Member at Large vacancy.   

Application deadline: 4:00 p.m. on June 18, 2021
